Healthcare facilities are enormously complex machines, constantly evolving. These facilities need to operate with the highest level of efficiency throughout their expected lifecycle. Healthcare owners and partner members, comprising the consortium, are collaborating to shape industry direction and to leverage Virtual, Design, Construction, and Operations (VDC/O) to facilitate efficient processes and data exchange supporting facility lifecycle management.

Focuses On

VDC Healthcare Consortorium

Purpose

Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) is the use of multi-disciplinary performance models of design-construction projects, including the Product (i.e., facilities), Organization of the design - construction - operation team and Work Processes in order to support business objectives and exceptionally reliable facility engineering and management processes to plan, design, construct and operate sustainable facilities.

  • Clearly articulate the role and importance of VDC in Healthcare Facility Lifecycle Management.
  • To leverage the potential of BIM to eliminate inefficiencies in the way healthcare assets are currently planned, programmed, designed, built and operated.
  • To leverage the potential of VDC to create opportunities to improve healthcare outcomes and affordability.

Management

Standards, Guidelines, and Metrics. Optimize the benefits of VDC during the execution of design to assist in successful project construction.

Sustainability

Measurably contribute to exceptionally reliable engineering and management processes to design, construct and operate sustainable facilities.

Process

Automate the data population of computerized maintenance management software CMMS / CAFM.

Education

Identify and share best practices across member organizations.

Objectives

The Consortium shall be a collaboration between industry partners (owners, software vendors, designers, builders and specialty consultants) in support of improved data interoperability for Facility Lifecycle Management.

  • Identify and share best practices across member organizations.
  • Optimize the benefits of VDC during the execution of design to assist successful project construction.
  • Automate the data population of computerized maintenance management software CMMS / CAFM.
  • Automate the data population – Medical Equipment & Furniture Inventory and Maintenance System.
  • Measurably contribute to exceptionally reliable engineering and management processes to design, construct and operate sustainable facilities.
  • Maintain and expand membership of the Consortium to reflect all sectors of healthcare.
  • Coordinate bi-annual Consortium gatherings.
  • Engage Stakeholders: Early, Often and Meaningfully.
  • Metrics-Based: Set explicit objectives, report performance often and manage by objectives and performance.
  • LOD: Manage the level of detail. Focus models, analyses and management on providing the proper deliverables at key milestones.
